What Does the Suunto Core do?
Altimeter Watch:
You're climbing Mount Hood and you know you need to pace your ascent
for maximum performance. So you check your Suunto Core altimeter at
regular intervals to stay on track.
Suunto altimeters measure elevation
using air pressure. An altimeter is useful for a load of outdoor
activities, including running, biking, hiking, skiing, or
snowboarding.
Barometer Watch: The
sun has been shining for days, but you know you'll need to hunker down
tonight thanks to the storm alarm on your Core.
The Suunto Core gives you consistently
accurate barometric information and a storm alarm that enables you to
plan your next move with total confidence and greater safety.
Compass Watch: What
are your bearings? Your Suunto Core compass measures bearings in
degrees and uses the 4 cardinal directions. Adjust the declination for
more accurate measurement depending on your location.
Snorkeling Watch: Grab
your fins, mask, and snorkel and get ready for underwater adventure.
Next time you're exploring the ocean reefs, you'll know how far down
that bright blue fish swam with a depth meter that tracks your dive up
to 30 ft/10 m.
Watch Features: Wake
up on time with the alarm and hit the snooze if you have a little
extra time in the morning. Know how much light is left before you need
to make camp with the sunrise and sunset alerts. When traveling, keep
track of the time where you are and where your loved ones wait for you
to come home.

Barometer Watches |
| A
barometer is an instrument that measures atmospheric pressure, or air
pressure. You can forecast the coming weather with a barometer -
low-pressure weather systems tend to come with cloudy skies and
precipitation (rain, snow, etc), while high pressure weather systems
usually come with very few clouds or precipitation. When the barometric
pressure is dropping, it's time to be on the lookout for increasing clouds
and possible bad weather.
A watch that can read barometric pressure
is an extremely convenient and useful device - you can stay informed of
coming weather conditions without interfering with what
you're doing, since air pressure trends can be monitored right on your
wrist.
This makes a barometer watch key piece of
gear for many outdoor activites, including hiking, climbing, fishing, and
amateur meteorology - basically, any activity where it's a good idea to be
able to quickly and easily keep an eye on the coming weather.
Suunto makes several high-quality barometer watches, each with different
capabilities and functionality.

Altimeter Watches |
|
An altimeter watch is a wristop
instrument that allows the wearer to determine their current elevation.
Of course, that's not all - combined with memory, an altimeter watch can
keep track of your total and cumulative vertical ascents and descents,
as well as the number of runs (for skiing or snowboarding, for example).
In some watches, the altimeter can be used to estimate your vertical
speed, or sound an alarm when you reach a set altitude.
The altimeters used in Suunto watches
base their measurements on air pressure - in a nutshell, the lower your
altitude is, the more air there is above you is, and the heavier it is.
So when you move uphill, the air pressure sensor in the watch detects
the decreasing air pressure, and automatically converts the pressure
drop into a reading of your increasing altitude. Of course, it is not
easy to get perfectly accurate measurements of altuitude, because there
many factors that can cause air pressure to flucuate.
This is why many altimeter watches
feature "temperature compensation," and why the altimeter must
to be calibrated regularly (by simply entering the current barometric
pressure or setting to a known altitude).
An altimeter is an important and useful
piece of gear for many outdoor activities, including running, biking,
hiking, skiing, or snowboarding. Pilots of small planes often wear an
altimeter watch as a back-up in case of instrument failure - although be
aware that an altimeter of this type cannot be used successfully in a
pressurized plane.
Suunto makes a variety of high-end
altimeter watches, each with different additional capabilities and
functionality.

FEATURES:
- Altimeter: Accurate
to 30,000 feet, displays current elevation, shows elevation
gain/loss, and records your entire session for later analysis.
Simplifying altimeter use, the Suunto Lumi includes a unique
start-from-zero function that eliminates the need for entering a
reference altitude. With the single push of a button, the
altimeter will begin tracking your ascent and descent.
- Barometer: Measures
and records air pressure to help you predict changing conditions. Features
automatic Alti/Baro mode that senses movement or lack thereof,
switching between altimeter and barometer accordingly.
Weather Trend Indicator shows 3-6 hour barometric history.
- Storm Alarm:
Activated by a rapid drop in air pressure over a three-hour
period, the Storm Alarm sounds and flashes, letting you know that
something unpleasant is fast approaching.
- Compass: Digital
compass keeps track of direction. Bearing lock with
traditional rotating bezel or adjustable digital lock.
- Sunrise / Sunset:
Just set your continent, region and city, and you'll always know
how much daylight remains for safe climbing, skiing and off-trail
travel.
- Snorkeling: Head
into the surf and the Suunto Core shifts from air to water
pressure, providing accurate depth readings to 30 feet.
